WELCOME TO THE CORPS OF CADETS

Welcome to the Garrett Academy of Technology Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps

(JROTC)

At the outset, there is one thing I would like to make very clear. Your participation in the JROTC program does not make you a member of the United States Army, nor will you be required to join the army upon completion of JROTC training. As an elective, JROTC awards academic credit ( 1 unit) towards graduation for each year of participation.

Our program augments and compliments the overall curriculum of the school. We do not only teach academic subjects but also develop the “Whole Individual”. The JROTC unit contains a good cross section of the student body: athletes, band members, honor students, members of various clubs and activities, and everyday students. JROTC is a course that every young person can pass with the proper attitude and a normal amount of application. The course consists of subjects that should appeal to young men and women.

Please take this book, look it over and discuss the contents with your parents/guardians T//his is a course where young adults can make their own way. No special qualifications are needed-you only to try.

Our motto: Lead by example

If you have any questions, I am available to discuss the JROTC program at any time. Please feel free to contact me at (843) 745-7126 or e-mail Rayford _Mitchell@Charleston.k12.sc.us.

Sincerely,
